The four-day workshops will concentrate on improvisational tools. On the first day of the workshop, Jaakko Kiljunen led the participants through the basics of the Suzuki Method. After having a chance to get an understanding of this method the participants had the chance to work individually and in pairs. The participants will do exercises that will help them get some understanding of themes such as commitment, listening, reacting, ‘joyfully embracing mistakes’, and ‘creating a story together’ from the point of view of improvisation. They will also do some physical exercises based on the Suzuki Method to develop the participants’ level of concentration and focus.
The Suzuki method has been created by the world-famous Japanese director Tadashi Suzuki. The most essential purpose of the training is to get the actor’s whole psycho-physical being to performative use and to cultivate the actor’s inner energies and expressional abilities. The practice concentrates on empowering emotional and physical capacities. Special attention is put on breathing, concentration, and focus. During the workshop, we will study some very basic, simple, and fun exercises related to the method. No previous experience is needed.
