AMPI + Producing with Mete Sasioglu

The three-day workshop focuses on creative production and the different stages of feature film production. The subject is approached through a film adaptation. All participants read a novel before the workshop. Topics of the workshop are finding essential things from the source material, collaboration with an author, budgeting and financing, establishing an international co-production, building a marketing plan, distribution and launching the film at an international film festival. The workshop is hosted by lecturer Mete Sasioglu from production company Sons of Lumière. The guest lecturers are Ville Jankeri (freelance director and writer), Ilona Tolmunen (Producer, Made), Katarina Nyman (Director of Film Distribution, Nordisk Film Finland) and Nadir Öperli (Producer, Liman Film)

About Mete: 

Mete Sasioglu is a producer and founder of the Sons of Lumière production company. He produces both documentary and fiction films and series. Mete is especially interested in the stories of the underrepresented and working with new talents. His recent works include The documentary series “Kapinalliset” about the climate activists in the Extinction Rebellion movement, a Sámi mermaid story “Áfruvvá”, which premiered at the Venice Biennale, a dance film “Ha Ha Ha” that got a 5-star review  in Finland’s biggest newspaper Helsingin Sanomat and the short film “Blue Note” that was Nominated for ‘Best Short Film’ at the Jussi-Gaala (Finland’s premier film industry awards) and won three awards at Tampere International Film Festival.

Requirements to participate:

We prefer participants who want to work as producers. Not e.g. directors who want to know about producing.

In the letter, please tell:

  • Why are you interested in being a producer and what kind projects you would like to produce. 
  • Give an example of a film you’ve seen and that you would have loved to produce.
  • Tell about a film or series of your own that you are dreaming of producing. You should tell more than just a one liner. You might need to tell that to the others in the workshop.

Location: Globe Art Point, Malminkatu 5, Helsinki

Schedule:

First Day 18.04  (5 hours  + lunch: 10:00 – 16:00) 

  • Working on the source material and talking about the collaboration between screenwriters and authors.

Second Day 19.04 (5 hours  + lunch: 10:00 – 16:00)

  • Budgeting and financing and a case-study about co-producing with Ilona Tolmunen (Producer, Made).

Third Day 20.04 (5 hours  + lunch: 10:00 – 16:00) 

– Working on a marketing and distribution plan, session with a distributor Katarina Nyman (Director of Film Distribution, Nordisk Film Finland) and case study about releasing a film at Cannes Film Festival Nadir Öperli (Producer, Liman Film).
